Let the Rewriting of This Chapter of Obama History Begin

And so it begins

At the NY Times:
In a sequence of events that neatly captures the contradictions of Barack Obama’s rise through Illinois politics, a phone call he made three months ago to urge passage of a state ethics bill indirectly contributed to the downfall of a fellow Democrat he twice supported, Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich.
Really? I though it was an ongoing investigation that began in 2003?

At the Washington Post:
By all accounts, Obama and Blagojevich are not close, though then-Sen. Obama endorsed his fellow Democrat's reelection bid in 2006.
This is just the beginning in of what is sure to be an exhaustive rewrote of the history of Obama (and by extension Axelrod and Emanuel) and Blagojevich.

If the Illinois GOP cant use this as an issue to beat their opponents to death with (much like Ryan was used as an issue) then to hell with them.

  1. I'm waiting for Obama to propose a new department for the executive branch - the "Ministry of Truth."

  2. If you read Fitzgerald's complaint, you will see that Blagojevich's efforts to cash in on his office became more frantic because a new ethics statute is to take effect in January which limits the ability of contractors to make campaign donations. It was this statute that Obama facillitated with his call to Emil Jones.

  3. Vinny, you really buy that shit the Times and Obama’s media sycophants are selling (don’t answer, its rhetorical)? Blagojevich most recent antics are certainly damning, but with Rezko spilling his guts to the prosecutor on Ali Ata’s relationship with Blagojevich as well as years of pay for play (all of which is detailed in the indictment), there was more than enough evidence to indict.

  4. I buy what's in Fitzgerald's complaint: As detailed below, in early October 2008, the government obtained information that ROD BLAGOJEVICH was accelerating his corrupt fund raising activities to accumulate as much money as possible before the implementation of ethics legislation on January 1, 2009, that would severely curtail ROD BLAGOJEVICH’s ability to raise money from individuals and entities conducting business with the State of Illinois.
I have no doubt that Blagojevich would have been brought down eventually with or without Obama, but the Feds would not have gotten the wiretaps that led them to discover his attempts to sell the senate seat if not for the new ethics law.
